How to move safely between strengths
Retinol speeds up cell turnover. Jumping straight into 1.0% guarantees irritation. A common progression is 0.25% → 0.3% → 0.5% → 1.0%, finishing at least one bottle at each level.
Night routine
- Gentle cleanser
- Retinol (Start 2x/week)
- Barrier-supportive moisturiser
Morning routine
- Cleanser
- Vitamin C (if tolerated)
- Moisturiser
- SPF 30–50 (Non-negotiable)
Pro Tip: Apply only at night on completely dry skin. Water increases penetration and irritation potential. Use a pea-sized amount for the whole face.

Retinol FAQ
How long does the “retinol purge” last?
Typically 2–6 weeks. Going too strong or too often is what prolongs it. A slower build, moisturiser support and a simple routine usually keep this phase manageable.
Can I use retinol with acids?
Often yes, but usually on alternating nights. Overloading your skin with strong acids and retinol together is where most irritation and redness come from.
Can sensitive or rosacea-prone skin use it?
Often yes, but starting with 0.25%, reduced frequency, and buffering with moisturiser. It’s something we normally customise case by case.
